The NeuroAttachment Framework

A connected framework for seeing people in context.

NeuroAttachment brings established findings from attachment science, neuroscience, developmental psychology, education, organizational science, and related fields into a shared structure for seeing more clearly, responding more wisely, and developing capacity intentionally.

The NeuroAttachment tree representing connected developmentThe guiding question
“How does this make sense?”

Understanding creates a stronger foundation for accountability and responsible action.

How the Framework Is Organized

Six connected layers. One coherent way of working.

Each layer answers a different question. Together, they connect the framework’s purpose, principles, dimensions, practices, and intended outcomes.

01

Why the framework exists

Purpose

Translate the science of human connection into useful wisdom that strengthens performance and relationships.

02

What governs its use

Foundational Principles

Human dignity, curiosity, relationships, science, accountability, hope, humility, and stewardship guide how the framework is understood and applied.

03

What we consider

Developmental Dimensions

Four connected dimensions help us consider the forces shaping development, perception, behavior, relationships, and performance.

04

How development moves

Mechanism of Change

Relationships are a central vehicle for development and change. They help create conditions in which growth becomes more possible.

05

What we practice

How It Becomes Practice

The NeuroAttachment Pause and RE-Cycle turn insight into a repeatable process for intentional, responsible action.

06

What the work supports

Outcomes

Stronger capacity, relationships, judgment, responsibility, adaptation, participation, and performance across human systems.

Foundational Principles

The framework is governed by how it treats people.

These principles preserve dignity, accountability, scientific humility, and developmental possibility across every audience and application.

Developmental Dimensions

People develop within bodies, relationships, meaning, and systems.

The four dimensions work together. They help us consider the connected influences shaping a person, relationship, team, or organization before deciding how to respond.

01

Nervous System

How current physiological state—including arousal and stress responses—can influence perception, attention, emotion, behavior, connection, and access to existing capacities.

02

Attachment

How relational histories and expectations involving safety, trust, proximity, and connection can influence development and response while preserving each person’s complexity.

03

Meaning & Culture

How identity, beliefs, language, lived experience, shared meaning, and culture influence interpretation and action.

04

Systems

How families, schools, teams, organizations, communities, policies, and environments shape available conditions and choices.

How attachment is used: NeuroAttachment considers relational histories and expectations as one part of a larger developmental picture.

Human Capacity

Developable abilities—and access to them in the moment.

Capacity is not the same as compliance, intelligence, motivation, personality, talent, knowledge, or performance. NeuroAttachment distinguishes the abilities a person develops over time from how much access they have to those abilities in a particular moment.

01

Human Capacity

Human Capacity is the integrated set of enduring, developable abilities that enable a person to regulate, relate, learn, adapt, contribute, and cultivate the development of others.

02

Usable Capacity

Usable capacity is having enough access to our abilities to think, connect, choose, and act responsibly—even when emotion or stress remains present.

Capacity—not compliance—is the destination. Stress, current physiological state, relationships, context, practice, and support can influence what a person can access in the moment while potential and accountability remain intact.

How Change Develops

Relationships are a central vehicle for development and change.

Information matters, and relationships help turn understanding into lived practice. They shape safety, meaning, feedback, opportunity, responsibility, practice, repair, and the conditions in which capacity can grow.

Interactions help create the conditions for growth. Each person still chooses how to respond.

How the Framework Becomes Practice

From automatic reaction to intentional response.

The NeuroAttachment Pause™ and RE-Cycle™ translate the framework into usable tools for clearer perspective, responsible action, and continued learning.

01

The NeuroAttachment Pause™

Create enough space to notice before deciding.

A practice developed within NeuroAttachment that helps people move beyond immediate certainty and become more able to choose what happens next. The complete method is taught through NeuroAttachment learning experiences and facilitated work.

01

See More Clearly

Consider more than the behavior, pressure, or performance immediately visible.

02

Widen Perspective

Make room for context, curiosity, and additional insight.

03

Respond Wisely

Hold human dignity, expectations, and responsibility in the same conversation.

04

Develop Intentionally

Use what is learned to strengthen future capacity, relationships, and conditions.

The RE-Cycle™ supports continued learning. It gives individuals and teams a responsible structure for carrying insight into practice, accountability, and future growth.

See Clearly.

See the wider context

Look beyond the visible moment with curiosity and appropriate humility.

Respond Wisely.

Choose responsible action

Bring dignity, expectations, and accountability together.

Develop Intentionally.

Strengthen future capacity

Carry learning into relationships, decisions, systems, and what happens next.

Conditions and Choice

“We can create the conditions that make growth possible, but every person must eventually choose how they will respond to those conditions.”

NeuroAttachment holds both truths: conditions matter, and choice matters. Understanding expands the possibilities for responsible action while preserving personal agency.
